A very refreshing change of pace, what with the Chief Inspector in Paris. We get Parisian restaurants, Parisian museums, Parisian food. A bonus is Penny's referencing to the Parisian disdain for Canadian French, Canadian everything. That adds spice, as does the competitive and mysterious relationship between the French and Canadian law enforcement bodies. The dynamic between Gamache and his son is also a new thread, and is was nicely done, counterpointed by Gamache-Beauvoir relationship. The billionaire conceit seemed a bit implausible. The "devils are here" allusions are overdone. Nous en avons déjà assez.
