Tales of the Cryptids

Mysterious Creatures That May or May Not Exist

Cryptozoology: not just the term to describe the category of all those weird creatures that no one is sure exists, like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, but a pretty cool word besides! Here is one of the best books on these mythical creatures. Halls not only devotes comprehensive chapters to the sasquatch and various sea monsters but also lists many more such quasi-animals in the back of the book, from the real (the prehistoric fish, coelacanth, found again in 1938!) to the utter hoaxes (the Cardiff Giant, a 10-foot tall man of stone once thought to be from the time of the Bible). And let's not forget that many real animals, such as the gorilla, the okapi and the platypus were until quite recently --well, until the turn of the 20th century, at least -- thought to be completely made-up! So, there's hope for more of these discoveries!
