This reminds me of the French artsy movies that take place around a dining room table or in one long tedious scene in a salon. It is an existential exploration of human frailty and lack of control in life. Characters seem to be driven by events and innate traits and have no view of the larger society. The dialogue takes place in a court room ( where reader is the judge) and story line is disjointed as characters take turns telling their stories, interrupting each other and commenting on the other's rectitude . Huston is a talented writer but she formats her stories into contrived plot lines that make reading a chore and unrewarding.
