In this riotous comedy, an adorable dachshund puppy finds itself shuffled from one oddball owner to the next, including two couples, a veterinary nurse (Greta Gerwig), a screenwriter (Danny DeVito) and a cranky old woman (Ellen Burstyn).

A series of ugly, misanthropic, very black-comedy vignettes (only the first two 2½ are connected), happening during the life of a particular dachshund who seems detached from it all. The parodic “intermission” was funny; the rest of it put me in a foul mood. Well done in its sardonic comments on the dark side of humans, including the subtle racism of some of the characters (and in its deliberately “bad” acting) but for these same reasons I can’t really recommend it.

this is a pretty groovy comedy that is not afraid to wear its heart on its shoulder. I don't know what movie everybody else saw, but this was pretty cool.

Do not get this movie to watch with your partner because they like wiener dogs and you think it will be cute and enjoyable. It is a slog and all 4 mildy funny parts are used in the trailer to make you believe there will be more. There are not. There was a couple of interesting ideas in this movie but it is really not worth your time. It felt subtly racist as well.

I dis-liked this mean spirited and disjointed movie. Wish I had not seem it

We tried to watch this, but it was like crawling through cold mud, and we had to switch to another movie half way through.

I liked it, however, the "riotous comedy " description should be removed. Except for the Intermission part..you will see.
This is about people, the dog is a small part of it. So sad a movie, I actually wiped a few tears away. Everyone was terrific. No typical American blowups, killings, violence, popcorn watching,CGI...it is a quiet, thinking movie. Do not show to young children.
Well done to the director

There was just a glimmer of something. The mother explaining to her son why the dog should be neutered, so she wouldn't be raped and have puppies and die was so shocking, I really wanted to laugh. Most of it was just sad.

You will either love or hate this dark comedy which is a commentary on the brutality of human existence. Warning, there are disturbing images you may not be able to "unsee". I enjoy films that challenge me and force me to contemplate ideas I might not otherwise think about, for example, our mortality.

Wow. What a piece of crap. Don't be fooled by the hype and the stars who are in this movie. It's an insult to anyone with a brain in their heads. The cute dog in it does not make up for a lame script and terrible acting.

This is NOT a movie for someone who is hoping to see something uplifting or cute or dogs in a funny movie. This is a VERY black comedy. So black it is, most of the time, very dark and depressing.

It is neither "lethally funny" nor "Hilarious" as it is rated on the outside of the DVD case. It is also not riotous (unless you are the SPCA).

The dog is the best thing about that movie and even then you will see the dog being neglected and even killed (just warning you).

Definitely NOT for family viewing.
