Written by the man who, in tandem with three friends, conquered the North face of the Eiger in Switzerland for the very first time. The book is compelling in not only the writing but also in the way the events are recounted, explained, and analyzed. This is a absorbing history of the men and women who chose to risk their lives - and many failed to succeed - and their approach to the task of climbing a dangerous and ever-changing mountain. Harrer is no slouch when it comes to the science of mountain climbing. This book, written by former Olympian Harrer, is a true tribute to those who see a challenge and face it. Some interesting black & white photographs and a complete compilation at the end, of all who attempted the climb past the 'white Spider', 'Traverse of the Gods,' and 'Death Bivouac' in the hope to reach the Eiger's summit.
