Harpur tells us the story of his own search for religion and the result is a compelling spiritual odyssey. In 1971, Tom Harpur joined the Toronto Star as the religion editor and over a number of years reported on and met many important figures from Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa to the Dali Lama, Jean Vanier, and Billy Graham. Here are fascinating anecdotes about these influential people and compelling accounts of the author's travels around the globe.

Important ideas from a learned man with heart

I loved this book. It is so well written and the way this man can tell a story is truly wonderful. I laughed out loud so many times and marveled at the things he talked about. He even mentions that part of the reason for writting this book is because of all the flack he got from writing "The Pagan Christ." All he has ever attempted to do was to get at the truth, and to speak it out loud. The best part is that there is nothing 'gossipy' about this book. There are people mentioned that he either didn't get along with, or for what-ever reason he didn't like, but he tells you why. He does not cop-out and I admire that. Anyway, it is a great book and I give it five stars!!

"Written after his 80th birthday, Born Again retraces the route that took Harpur from a Depression-era evangelical Low Church Anglican upbringing in Toronto to local, national and international fame as The Toronto Star’s globetrotting religion editor, as a TV personality and the author of many books that culminated in the religious controversies surrounding The Pagan Christ and its 2007 sequel, Water into Wine."
