13th book in the series; I wish Maron would give more depth to the main characters of Judge Deborah Knott, husband Dwight, father Kezzie.
I like reading MAron's writing; it's thoughtful, detailed, intelligent, persuasive; varied in seasonal insights of the land down yonder way.
This particular plot was okay, but for me, it was not as rich a plot as some of the earlier plots in the series, possibly because the first murder was of a character not felt as very likeable.

Have always appreciated the rural setting of this series. Alas, even this literary setting is threatened by development and all that goes with it.

Margaret Maron's North Carolina mysteries about Judge Deborah Knott continues to entertain. These books are people driven rather than being true puzzlers. It is as though the mystery itself is but an excuse to spend a few delightful hours with Judge Knott and her delightful circle of family and friends. Though this reader is not normally a big fan of "cozies" each of Maron's titles is opened with a great deal of pleasure and anticipation.

Margaret Maron's writing is solid, her plots are good, and her characters are sympathetic. This story actually has two plots, and they really don't intersect.
