Covers the years from the beginning of the American Revolution to the end of the War of 1812. It opens with the American invasion of Canada in 1775, followed by the mass migration of Loyalists that followed--creating an English-speaking Canada. Then the leaders of the Canadiens embraced the newly-introduced parliamentary democracy as a way of affirming their own identity. The war of 1812, fought to a standstill, setting boundaries confirming a seperate British North America for the northern half of the continent.
