Now an HBO limited series starring Ben Mendelsohn!

Evil has many faces...maybe even yours in this #1 New York Times bestseller from master storyteller Stephen King.
An eleven-year-old boy's violated corpse is discovered in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens—Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon have DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

As the investigation expands and horrifying details begin to emerge, King's story kicks into high gear, generating strong tension and almost unbearable suspense. Terry Maitland seems like a nice guy, but is he wearing another face? When the answer comes, it will shock you as only Stephen King can.

I loved this story and narrator. I feel like the other commenters didn’t read the same book. This was evoking of great mystery and horror.

The beginning is excellent, terrifying and creepy but that only covers about 5 pages of the book - The rest is so tied up in one character's own mind-meld struggle with himself that it brings the whole novel to a screeching halt until the last few pages of the "big stand-off" which is basically over before it begins.

In the movie version which is actually even worse than the book - they completely re-write almost the whole novel! I can't say I blame them for trying because I wasn't able to get through the characters internal struggle for at least a month and a half myself (at small increment amounts) but they don't do much better here and they changed all the best parts about the book's character's which I actually liked and enjoyed. However and in the end, both were sad disappointments, in my opinion.

I thought the first two-thirds of the book was good, but when it got into the supernatural stuff, it kind of lost me. I think the first half of the book was so well done that I think it made it hard to wrap up. It was kind of neat to have Holly back from the Bill Hodges trilogy. But this book is great in comparison to Sleeping Beauties--no doubt! This book will make a good TV mini-series.

The story is like the boogeyman/bloodsucking pumpkin head meets IT. Supernatural ending to what could have been a great book. A few twist and turns that you DO see coming. A gang of people at the end killing the doppelganger, just like in IT. Well written, but not worth reading. An expected outcome. Would not recommend.
