Well-metred rhymes make this book a perfect read-aloud! As a party forms in bear's den, he continues to snore. But will the various woodland creatures manage to make it through the night without waking him?
This book is about a bear who sleeps through a long winter. Animals are very scary and there is a combination of animals in this book. To be honest this book makes me feel really scared because I am very afraid of animals and I don't really like them that much. The illustrations in this book look very complex and it looks very neat. I really like this book and that's why I think more people should borrow this book as soon as possible. I would recommend this book for ages 5 to 10 because I think it is suitable for that age group @Bookworm5755 of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library.
I love this books series and this particular book didn't disappoint. I love the illustrations. My son now knows some of bears animals friends and will point them out. It is light hearted and suited for ages 2-5!
Bear is hibernating in his cave. One by one his friends come by to use the cave while bear is sleeping. Before long they have a party going. It becomes too much and wakes up bear who is upset that his friends are partying without him.
As always, the illustrations are gorgeous, rich, and colorful. They don't have quite as much characterization as the books that follow in this series.
One of things I love best about the Bear series from Wilson is how it shows such a wonderful example of friendship and caring. This book does the opposite. His friends do not care that he must stay asleep. Instead they set up a cozy and later a loud party in Bear's space. I'm sure they miss his company, but they do not show empathy for his needs. And in the end, instead of telling his friends he needs to sleep, they fall asleep and Bear is wide awake. The rhyming is also not as good as the other books. I'm glad I didn't read this book first in the series as it would have turned me off. I love all the other books I have read so far. This book is not necessary to understand the series and could easily be skipped.
The best storytime book!
LOVED this book. My kids can almost recite it. Has a great, catch rhyming to it that my toddlers adore. Plus the story is just cute.
My husband loved reading this one to our daughter. It has a great sing-song feel. As it's about a winter night it's a great read on a hot spring day to mentally cool off.
Who doesn't like the Bear books? Very cute.
I know a lot of people love this but we thought it was just ok.
