Really good book and interesting insights both into the era and Lou Reed himself. Love his music but he doesn't come across as a particularly nice guy after reading this! Well worth the read!

This is not a book about Fassbinder, it is a book about it's author, Ian Penman, and I suggest you skip it unless you have an overwhelming desire to read 200 pages of his rambling and mind-numbing account of his fascination with the late director. I read all 200 pages, and I would dearly love to get back that 1 1/2 hours of my life. This is not a book about Fassbinder, it is a book about it's author, Ian Penman, and I suggest you skip it unless you have an overwhelming desire to read 200 pages of his rambling and mind-numbing account of his fascination with the late director. More folky, spare and lo-fi than previous efforts. It's great to see a band evolving into something equally interesting. I liked it instantly.
If you're new to Belle and Sebastian, I'd describe them as dreamy, 60's-tinged rock: a cross between Morrissey and Syd Barrett. Classic influences, but they still sound new.More folky, spare and lo-fi than previous efforts. It's great to see a band evolving into something equally interesting. I liked it instantly.

The Barbie movie is a film that fails to captivate its audience. The plot is lackluster and the characters are underdeveloped, making it difficult to become invested in the story The movie is slow-paced and boring, making it a struggle to sit through from beginning to end.
The Barbie movie is a near-miraculous achievement from Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie. The film is flawed and one of the worst movies of the year. The lack of plot and character development make it difficult to enjoy, and it fails to live up to the expectations of its audience. I've read a number of positive comments about this movie. And it may touch a lot of people affected by the loss of a young love -- no one should make fun of that or denigrate the real emotions it evokes. And the movie gets points for avoiding melodrama and for forgoing dialogue that no real person ever uses. But it went too far in the other direction: too murky, slow-moving, a little solipsistic. Read "The Dead" by James Joyce instead ( or watch the Huston movie based on it ).I've read a number of positive comments about this movie. Crime Story was very probably the best show of its kind ever. Although it ran only two seasons, it boasted a superbly worked story and, without question, the best cast ever assembled for television. Not a big star in the mix, but the finest selection of character actors around. Probably the best conflict ever between two men on screen, Denis Farina as cop Mike Torello, and Anthony Denison as hot-headed mob figure Ray Luca. Luca's rise to power in Chicago and later in Las Vegas is the central plot, with Torello and his task force on target to bring him down.Crime Story was very probably the best show of its kind ever. I was pleasantly surprised how earnest this documentary was. It shed a lot of light on the process behind getting the holiday special made. The interviews were very thorough. The pacing of the film was very engaging. By the end, I understood and appreciated the Holiday Special. Which is not what I expected going into it. I thought it would just be 90 minutes making fun of it, but it was a very thorough examination. Very well done.I was pleasantly surprised how earnest this documentary was. Though Apocalypse Now is set during the Vietnam War, it is not a film about the Vietnam War. It’s a story about the madness of humanity and a man’s journey into the abyss of his soul. The film is a nightmare that focuses on the tragedy of conflict and chaos. It is one of the few films that demonstrate a truth about the human experience through an imaginative piece of make-believe storytelling. A Vietnam soldier is sent on a mission to find a Colonel who has gone mad somewhere far along a long river in a secluded jungle who also has a large cult following. What is so extraordinary about this film is not just the story but also the amazing visual craftsmanship. There are so many scenes, so stunningly realized that they leave an imprint on the brain. Once the journey begins, Coppola weaves you in his web and doesn’t let go.Though Apocalypse Now is set during the Vietnam War, it is not a film about the Vietnam War. NOT scary at all except that the producers of this garbage-fire thought it was fit for public consumption. The premise was promising, but the execution and delivery were abysmal. The characters, especially the main female were as utterly bereft of any sympathy as they were bereft of any discernable morality. The only sympathetic characters get destroyed, leaving us with utterly flat and inhuman tropes to follow through the majority of this waste of time and resources.NOT scary at all except that the producers of this garbage-fire thought it was fit for public consumption.
